John Carberry, Chairman:
John founded and funded SA as well as inspired Matthew to follow his lifelong passion. John regularly advises and encourages everyone on the team with his business acumen.  In his spare time, he writes patents and develops technology for materials engineering with applications such as solar, thermoelectric, epoxy molding compounds, fiber-optics, and military armor. He earned his degree at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, and has a strong background in both engineering and business.

Matthew Carberry, President, Founder, Marine Biologist:

Since founding Sustainable Aquatics, Matthew has pioneered new advances in hatchery operations for marine ornamentals, working through more than a dozen metrics to create a hatchery with performance gains in yield, color, size, health, quality and grow out time that set new standards in the field. Matthew has degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in Marine Biology, EEB, and French. Matthew has been the primary biologists at SA since its founding.

Matthew is a marine biologist with extensive field experience:

In 2005 was a lab tech on the William Seward steaming out of Harbor Branch on a voyage to sample the waters of the Atlantic north the edge of the ice cap. Taking samples at multiple depths several times a day for weeks on-end, the team created a record of the bacterial and viral life forms in these waters as a bench mark for future reference;

In 2003 on two occasions worked as a lab tech on similar voyages on Lake Ontario;

Worked as a lab tech in the molecular biology lab at UT specializing in PCR;

Spent a semester while in college in the Florida Keys studying and cataloging marine life;

Matthew has led multiple field trips to the Solomon Islands, the Arabian Sea, Oman, Florida, Hawaii, the Caribbean, the BVI, Norway, and California and Mexico. Matthew is an advanced open water diver with advanced certification for mixes gases as well as other PADI qualifications.

Chris Turnier: Operations Manager:

Chris has joined SA as Operations Manager, in which role he is deeply involved in all biology, developments and operations. Chris has a BS in Fisheries from Humboldt State University and an AA from Feather Ridge College. For the past four years he and his family have been based in the Fiji Islands where Chris was the Mariculture and Livestock Manager for a leading firm in Fiji.  Prior to this he led Refer Madness, an internet Pet Store, where he established a shining reputation for his service and knowledge of corals and fish. Chris has worked in retail as well as a chemical analyst in a working chem analytical chem lab.

Chris brings great knowledge of corals and fish habitat biology and logistics to SA and has great passion for sustainability and the success of our retail customer and their customers, the hobbyists.

Kenneth Wingerter, Process Biologist:

Kenneth has a BS in biology, EEB for Marine Biology from the University of Oregon, Eugene Oregon, and an advanced certification from Oregon Coast College in Aquarium Sciences. Kenneth has extensive experience in aquaculture and the retail side of our business, working as a lab tech at the Zebrafish Research Center as well as working at the Institute of Neuroscience in Eugene Oregon. He has performed work at the Hatfield Marine Science Center, at the Lane Community College Wet Lab, and in addition to being a PADA open water diver, is certified by the Institutional Aquatic Animal User Training Program (CAI).

G Bruce Charles, CFO:

Bruce, who did service to our country as a Marine, has undergraduate and graduate degrees in accountancy and tax and started his career in public accounting before joining Johnson & Johnson, where he founded and led J&J Finance for 18 years. Bruce has a strong entrepreneurial history and has been known to bypass the work on his desk for days on end working instead with one of his true loves, the SI Project!

Lisa Carberry, Controller and Office Leader:

With undergraduate degrees in Botany and French and a graduate certificate from the University of California Irvine in Systems Management, Lisa is the go-to person on all fronts, from sales to purchasing, logistics, personnel, and operations as well as her day job in accounting and Finance. She and Bruce have a long history of working together that makes everything at SA work a bit better than one could reasonably hope!
